THE MISSION AND THE POLITICAL LINES OF THE PIO XII INSTITUTE


Asthma children : Our Institute was founded thanks to an act of love towards unlucky children of Benedictine Paolino Beltrame Quattrocchi, who bought it in 1945 for the Diocese of Parma.

Later, it became a Centre for the Diagnosis, Care and Rehabilitation for Childhood Asthma. The Centre offers the latest clinical and scientific research technologies at the same time following the Christian way of living. Thanks to the priests and nuns, staff at the Centre follows Christian beliefs, competence, availability and charity to all sick children and offer the necessary religious assistance. The Institute intends to fulfil its mission by following the tasks below mentioned:

TASK 1

The baby has the right to enjoy the highest degree of health and to get the best possible support to achieve this. All the staff of the Pio XII Institute not only work towards controlling of asthma but also look after the children and their families. The aim of our Institute is to promote health and prevent diseases through medical support and health education. Furthermore, the staffs constantly update their professional skills in order to achieve excellent scientific and technical expertise.

TASK 2

The child has the right to be always supported and monitored during treatment. The Institute has got a team of doctors, nurses, educationists and religious people: who follow the young patient in the medical and educational path during the treatments and also after his discharge. The Institute has links to ensure the continued treatment and educational opportunities for the child. The staffs train children and family members in self-management of asthma.

TASK 3

The Institute always ensures the a relative or of another figure of reference, is close to the child depending on the clinical and organizational needs. The staffs also look after children in a humane way, to help emotional wellbeing.

TASK 4

The child has the right to psychological and social development. The Institute has an official Internal school to ensure the continuity of the education.

TASK 5

The child has the right to be considered as a person, to be treated with sensitivity and according to individual needs. All the staff of the Pio XII Institute identify the children by their name, respect cultural identity and religious faith. The approach towards the young patient is custom-made, paying attention to the child and his relatives’ demands. The Pio XII Institute creates the right conditions to ensure the respect for the modesty and the privacy of the child and family.

TASK 6

The children and their parents have the right to be informed in a proper way, depending on their age and degree of comprehension. The staffs inform parents and children about the health conditions, and about the medical, educational and social path that the child will follow, by using a simple and comprehensible way of speaking.

TASK 7

The child has the right to be involved in the diagnostic and therapeutic decisions. The clinical and basic tests on the young patients can be carried out only after approval from parents or those with parental responsibility. An approval by the Ethical Committee of the territory is required to carry out any research tests along with consent from parents or those with parental responsibility.

TASK 8

The child has the right to be submitted to the less invasive and less painful medical interventions. Everyone in the Institute ensures that child does not experience pain at any time thus helping in full co-operation of the child. All the staff is dedicated to provide emotional, psychological support to the child and family to reduce stress and anxiety. The Pio XII Institute doesn’t want the child to be submitted to unnecessary diagnostic investigations and therapeutic treatments.

TASK 9

Child must be protected from every form of violence, abandonment and physical and moral negligence. The Pio XII Institute maintains confidentiality on all aspects about the child at all times. If necessary, Social Services are informed of every kind of negligence physical or emotional abuse on the child or any possible high-risk situations. Institute offers best support to the child though close collaboration between the family, social services and religious organisation.

TASK 10

The child has the right to be treated with dignity and respect. All staff work in a devoted way to protect the health and the quality of life, avoiding any painful or unnecessary procedures. During the stay in the Institute the child and family are well cared for in a humane way by doctors, nurses, religious people and psychologists. The medical and religious staff also takes care of the child and his family even after the discharge of the young patient according to their policy of assistance and help.

TASK 11

The Pio XII Institute provides a public service. This activity is based on the principles enacted in the Directive of the President of the Council of the Ministers dated January 27, 1994. In order to achieve high standards, diagnostic methods and therapies are updated based on scientific evidence.
